Summerslam 2020 is over but the wwe isn't wasting any time having another pay-per-view with payback airing just a week later and the wwe airing some surprisingly big matches join us now as we predict the winners and losers for this year's payback pay-per-view now of course the full card hasn't been revealed just yet and it probably won't be revealed until after smackdown or probably sunday morning nevertheless we're going to look at some confirmed matches and look at some of the rumored matches and the predictions.

Women's Tag Team Championship

The women's tag team championship match as the champions the golden role models take on nia jax and shayna basler the unlikely team of naya and shayna basler could turn out to be a good tank team and that's good as they're all but guaranteed to become the women's tank team champions as we've discussed before the only reason sasha banks and bayley are women's tag team champions is to advance their inevitable breakup the wwe finally started the breakup storyline at summerslam when bayley didn't help banks retain her raw women's championship against oscar look for some miscommunication to strike the golden role models as they dropped the belt to jax and bassler furthering the bff's breakup with any luck jacks won't accidentally injure bailey or banks putting their feud on hold our prediction nia jax and shayna basler win the women's tank team championship.

United States Championship

The next match is the united states championship match between champion apollo crews vs bobby lashley apollo cruz hasn't had an easy run as united states champion with mvp's hurt business doing its best to injure him and defeat him for the belt now that mvp and shelton benjamin have had their title opportunities against cruz it's time for the group's number one member to step up cruz is going to have his hands full with the almighty and while ashley should be competing for a world championship a u.s championship is a good way to get the hurt business over further as a faction and to reward lashley for patiently waiting for his match against brock lesnar fingers crossed that'll happen someday or whether the wwe goes with lashley as united states champion is anyone's guess but it could make himself into a dominant champion our prediction bobby lashley wins the united states championship.

Randy Orton Versus Keith Lee

The next match is randy orton versus keith lee people can criticize the wwe for giving keith lee a mini skirt and a new entrance music but the former nxt champion isn't lacking when it comes to a push lee debuted on drawing immediately began a program against randy orton arguably raw's top heel they wisely ended lee and orton's television match with the disqualification due to drew mcintyre's interference setting up this pay-per-view match now the wwe finds itself in a bit of a dilemma as orton has been portrayed as the legend killer but he's failed to rack up many wins against active wrestlers while they can't afford to have orton lose they definitely don't want lee to lose either especially in his main roster pay-per-view debut in light of this predicament look for drew mcintyre to interfere in the match leading to a disqualification finish and a confrontation between lee and orton somewhere down the road but our prediction randy orton wins but only by disqualification.

Universal Championship Match (No Holds Barred)

The next match it's the main event as it's the no holds barred triple threat universal championship match as the champion the fiend takes on roman reigns and braun strowman now while the fiend walked out of summerslam with braun strowman's universal championship neither he nor strowman escaped unscathed during the brutal falls count anywhere match or after when roman reigns showed up to lay both men out now that the big dog is back he's setting his sights on smackdown's top prize and fans are wondering whether or not the fiend will be a transitional champion now we've come up with two scenarios here the first scenario being bray wyatt drops the universal championship but he doesn't do the job instead roman pins braun strowman winning the belt and setting up a rematch with the fiend later down the line for survivor series roman reigns has discussed wanting to work against the fiend so it makes sense to keep either the fiend or range from pinning each other until the wwe can set up a money match now this could also even happen at hell and sell as a fiend versus reigns match seems like a sure-fire main event in scenario 2 the fiend and braun strowman joined forces in takeout reigns with the big dogs bid for a universal championship failing and him likely finding himself fighting strowman before he can get his hands on the fiend while a loss by reigns may seem counterproductive since he just came back a tainted loss rarely hurts anyone especially when a wrestler faces the combined might of the fiend and braun strowman and while we think the second scenario has more storytelling possibilities particularly if alexa bliss gets involved too it's more likely vince will go down with what he thinks a sure thing in roman reigns as champion opting for scenario 1. whatever the case wwe needs to take full advantage of the no-holds-barred stipulation so that all three superstars can dish out lots of destruction while summerslam's false count aidaway match had its moments on mayhem they need to blow the roof off with this match our prediction though roman reigns wins the universal championship.

Now those are the confirmed matches what about the rumored matches as there are a number of them so let's take a look at potential matchups as well as the likely winners if the wwe does run these matches it will make 8 matches for the show a number the wwe has maintained for the last several pay-per-views and one it seems to think is the right amount should they not go with any of the rumored matches it can always have either the raw or smackdown tag team champions defend their belts of course we'll update you if any more matches are announced in the news.

Intercontinental Championship Rematch

The first rumored match is an intercontinental championship rematch as jeff hardy takes on aj styles while the wwe supposedly got rid of its automatic rematch clause a battle between the current champion and the previous champion seems like a no-brainer in fact not holding a rematch is the proverbial case of leaving money on the table styles vs hardy was fantastic and a second match may be even better especially with more time to work on pay-per-view the big question is whether the wwe wants to give hardy any significant run with the title or whether the win was the wwe's latest hot shot move to boost ratings styles does seem like the best choice of the two as the wwe has already made programs with biggie and matt riddle as well as standby such as drew gulak and daniel bryan but we can't see them taking the belt off jeff hardy just quite yet as after all there's still a number of matches that jeff could have with other possible opponents so our prediction jeff hardy retains the intercontinental championship.

Matt Riddle Versus King Corbin

The other is matt riddle versus king corbin king corbin doesn't like the king of bros and in fact seems to hate his guts the clash of personalities between the two blue brand performers makes for an excellent reason driving this match corbin would be wise to not underestimate riddle's laid-back attitude as riddle's opponents have found out the laid-back bro can turn into one mean mofo once he gets into the ring riddle has been enjoying a strong push and corbin as always is good when it comes to working feuds against wrestlers getting heat on himself thanks to his promo skills and somehow managing to keep his status as an upper card wrestler when he inevitably loses a feud a riddle versus corbin feud should be entertaining in and out of the ring and the x factor whether someone will attempt to collect the king's ransom bounty on riddle adds just a little more excitement to every match involving him if they want to continue this feud they need to give corbin a tainted win here presumably due to someone attempting to collect the bounty on riddle if not riddle wins and moves on we feel there's enough life in this feud for at least one more pay-per-view match so look for corbin to get the tainted win.

Big E Versus Sheamus

Another match would be big e versus sheamus wwe has been taking their time with big e singles push giving him wins over the miz john morrison and sheamus however biggie's win over sheamus wasn't decisive so it wouldn't surprise us to see the celtic warrior call biggie out for a rematch at payback big e and sheamus had an exciting match on the 21st august edition of smackdown and the only bad thing about this match was the finish where big e rolled up a distracted sheamus for the one two three this match should get some time for both superstars to showcase their multi-layered offense not only helping to put big e over but to reinforce the idea that sheamus is a viable single star for now though the push is on big e so expect him to get a clean win after a rough and tumble scrap with sheamus hopefully advancing his solo run even further.

Kevin Owens Vs Alistair Black

And our final prediction would be kevin owens vs alistair black as we noted in our latest news report the wwe is positioning alistair black for a program against kevin owens largely because rey mysterio re-upped with the wwe and can now continue his feud against seth rollins this isn't a bad thing for either black or owens as kao recently finished his feud against the monday night messiah wrestlemania 36 and a second feud would be anticlimactic as for the dutch destroyer he's been languishing on raw and a heel turn is both well needed and better suited for his character both owens and black have served in supporting roles on raw and it's time for both to get back into the spotlight this series against owens can prove whether black has what it takes to run at the upper card and perhaps even the main event level in a best case scenario black will get the win possibly even brutalizing owens just please no more eye injuries and setting things up for a grudge match later down the line.
